The Harold E. Eisenberg Foundation sponsored and hosted its seventh annual Career Day event on October 24 and 25, 2013. Almost one hundred students from schools across the Midwest, including DePaul University, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Indiana University, Notre Dame, John Marshall Law School, Roosevelt University and Marquette University, gathered for this two day event. Career Day is an educational outreach forum designed for young people who are looking to build a career in real estate.
On Thursday, October 24, the experience included a presentation on the evolution of River North by Jason Friedman followed by site tours of Friedman Properties’ AMLI River North and the Hotel Triplex of Marriot Fairfiled, Hyatt Place and Starwood Aloft. This was followed by a Young Guns Panel and Networking Dinner at Gino’s East, where students learned about career paths from some of the brightest young “stars” in the real estate field. On Friday, October 25, the students enjoyed a presentation by Rand Diamond, Principal of GlenStar Properties, and following site tour of GlenStar’s Park Monroe building at 55 E. Monroe. The experience ended with a Roundtable Luncheon, where students had the opportunity to have intimate discussions with over 20 of the city’s top real estate professionals, and a Job/Internship Fair.
“Career Day allows college students to receive a 24-hour hands-on immersion in the real working world of Chicago real estate,” said Katie Wales, Executive Director of the Harold E. Eisenberg Foundation.
“I learned more in the last 24 hours than I have in all my classes,” said one student.
